How to create Changelogs

Estimated reading: 2 minutes 789 views

Summary: A changelog tracks key changes to your project, like new features and bug fixes. In Docy, use the Gutenberg-based Changeloger block for a faster workflow—no more old custom post types needed.

What is a Changelog?

A changelog is a clear record of important changes made to a project or product. It usually includes:

  • Bug fixes
  • New features
  • Improvements to existing features
  • Added or removed content

Instead of listing every tiny edit, today’s best practice is to include only meaningful changes in a clean, chronological order.

Creating Changelogs in Docy

Docy has fully transitioned to the Gutenberg-based Changeloger feature. This is now the only supported method for adding changelogs.

Follow these steps:

1. Install the Changeloger Plugin

  1. Log in to your WordPress Dashboard.
  2. Navigate to: Plugins → Add New.
  3. Search for “Changeloger”.
  4. Install and activate the plugin.

2. Add the Changeloger Block

  1. Open the page you want to display your changelog on (using the Gutenberg editor).
  2. Click Add Block (+) and search for “Changeloger”.
  3. Insert the block.

3. Choose Your Input Method

The block offers three ways to add your changelog:

  • Upload .txt File – import changelog content directly
  • Plain Text – type or paste your changelog manually
  • Load Sample Data – generate a starter template

You’ll be presented with three input options:

Fill in the necessary details, save or update the page, and your changelog will appear instantly—powered by the modern Gutenberg system.

Important Notes:

  • This new method provides a simpler, faster, and more reliable workflow.
  • The old Changelogs custom post type has been permanently removed.
  • The Changeloger block is now the only supported way to create changelogs in Docy.
